Noticing On-campus-violence against Women

Project STOP NOW! is the first special initiative to be awarded by the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women that focuses on providing training and technical assistance to UNCF member colleges and universities for the purpose of implementing campus programs and policies that increase the prevention of violent crimes committed against women.

It was first awarded in 2003 and re-funded in 2007.

This special initiative is a program that draws upon the organizational strengths of an association of institutions of higher education. The objective of the initiative includes the development of a coordinated community response, prevention and education programs for incoming students, and training programs for campus police and judicial disciplinary boards.

Tougaloo College serves as the lead institution for the project. Tougaloo entered into a cooperative agreement with United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation (UNCFSP) to initiate the involvement and commitment of the UNCF member institutions.
